Hollis Select Board Transparency Archive

Good morning all

It looks like a pretty busy night already but I would like to request one more item to consider: if the board will approve the use of the town-owned land adjacent to the Porter Field area of the Debbie J. Tefft Hollis Sports Complex for a proposed bike skills area and single-track mountain bike trails, and to also discuss using a portion of the remaining approved Sports Complex funds as matching funds for a 2026 Maine Trails Grant application.

The grant would fund the professional construction of these recreation trails and features, and the big kicker: the grant provides a 90% match. The application is due in mid-July, so timing is important.

These are already voter-approved funds that remain unspent, and using a portion as match would allow the town to leverage outside funding for a significant recreation improvement (and way for our residents to exercise and stay health) without additional taxpayer appropriation.

The earlier idea of designating this areas for recreation / conservation for a Land & Water Conservation District is still an option and will be discussed later, but this request is focused on moving forward in time to meet this grant's deadline.
